Itinerary

Day 1 ARRIVAL IN RIO DE JANEIRO: Iconic beaches and cable car at the Sugarloaf mountain

Morning

Arrival at Rio de Janeiro-Galeão International Airport, followed by a transfer to your hotel and assistance with check-in.

Enjoy some free time around your hotel and an opportunity to go for a stroll on Copacabana beach.

Afternoon

In the afternoon, enjoy a guided tour of Rio’s iconic beaches, including Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblon and the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon. Ride the safest cable car system in the world up the Sugarloaf Mountain where you will have a toast as the sun sets over the amazing scenery of Rio's background.

Day 2 RIO DE JANEIRO: The Corcovado, Christ the Redeemer and Santa Teresa

Morning

Early in the morning, board the train on the rack railway up the Corcovado mountain. On reaching the peak of one of the most distinctive mountains in the world, you will get amazing scenic views of Rio and a close look at the majestic Christ the Redeemer statue, one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World. Back in the city, visit the bohemian neighborhood of Santa Teresa with its unique architectural heritage and incredible cultural wealth.

Afternoon

Free afternoon. Relax at the beach, keep exploring the vibrant city, or visit the modern Museum of Tomorrow (Museu do amanhã) and the Museum of Fine Arts (Museu Nacional de Belas Artes) (entrance fees not included).

Day 3 Free morning, road to TIRADENTES

Morning

Morning at leisure to relax, enjoy the beaches of Copacabana, or buy some 'souvenirs'.

Afternoon

Afternoon transfer to Tiradentes: Undoubtedly the most charming of the historical cities of Minas Gerais (5 hours).
Check-in and installation at your hotel in Tiradentes.

Evening

Free evening to discover more of Tiradentes. You can walk through Largo das Forras, the central city square, which houses the City Hall and numerous handicraft shops, restaurants, and inns.

Day 4 TIRADENTES: City tour, Maria Fumaça Train to São João del Rei, Train Museum

Morning

Enjoy a guided city tour of Tiradentes in the morning. When gold became scarce in the region, the city was forgotten and fell into despair. However, it was rediscovered in the late 1970’s. Exceptionally preserved thanks to the decades of long isolation, the Baroque architectural ensemble of Tiradentes gathers architectural jewels such as the charming São José Fountain, built in 1749 to supply the city with drinking water which still runs today.

Afternoon

Your train journey to São João del Rei in the Maria Fumaça will start at 1pm. Hop aboard on a nineteenth-century steam train, with an immaculately maintained rolling stock from the 1930s. (12km / 30 minutes)
On your arrival, visit the Train Museum: Inaugurated in 1981, the year in which the Western Railroad of Minas completed one hundred years, the museum offers visitors an opportunity to see various old objects: the EFOM locomotive no. 1 - which was the first of the railroad - a luxury wagon, used by the administration and important personnel, such as emperor D. Pedro II. There are also explanatory panels with texts and photos that depict the history of the railroad, as well as seven locomotives that are displayed in a gallery attached to the building.

Day 5 SAO JOAO DEL REI: City tour, CONGONHAS: City tour, Transfer to OURO PRETO

Morning

City tour of São João del Rei. Born in 1702, this city is one of the largest, most important, and ancient eighteenth-century mining towns in Brasil.
For the enchantment of local residents and tourists, the city keeps alive a centuries-old tradition: the ringing of the church bells. This bell performs customs sounds such as "city of the bells" and "land where the bells speak" that play to serenade the entire city. The historic center of the city displays fountains, monumental bridges, and beautiful colonial mansions. The main attraction is the Tancredo Neves Memorial, created to honor the Brazilian lawyer and politician born in the city.

Afternoon

Transfer to Congonhas (2 hours) and enjoy a city tour upon arrival. Located in a valley and framed by majestic mountains, Congonhas do Campo, 70 kilometers from Belo Horizonte, bewitches its visitors with the beauty of its rich Baroque heritage. The city is best known as the Cidade dos Profetas “The City of the Prophets”, in reference to the sculptures of the 12 prophets of the Bible installed in front of the Santuário do Bom Jesus de Matosinhos. This spectacular Baroque treasure is the work of Aleijadinho, the greatest master of Baroque art in Brazil, who also decorated the entire sanctuary. Due to its elegant and timeless nature, the city  has earned its classification as a UNESCO World Heritage of Humanity since 1986.

Day 6 OURO PRETO: 'Train of the Valley' to MARIANA, Flight to CURITIBA

Morning

Today’s scheduled tour is at one of the most important historical cities of Minas Gerais: Ouro Preto, which was the first Brazilian city to be considered a world heritage site by UNESCO in 1980, being also part of Brazil´s Circuit of Gold. The city of Ouro Preto is well known for its colonial architecture, adorned with a magnificent Baroque architectural ensemble, being one of the best preserved in the world.

Afternoon

A trip not to be missed is the journey on board the Trem da Vale 'Train of the Valley' to Mariana. Built in 1883, this famous train will take you from Ouro Preto to Mariana (12km).
Listed as a National Monument in 1945, Mariana is one of the brightest jewels of the historical mining circuit and a feast for those who love architecture, art, and history.
Leaving the old town of Mariana, you can visit the largest gold mine in the world riding a trolley into the tunnels that reach 120m depth, where we see a beautiful natural lake. Since its founding in the early eighteenth century, 35 tons of gold were removed about.
At the end of the afternoon, transfer to Belo Horizonte to take your flight to Curitiba.

Day 7 CURITIBA: Serra Verde Express Train, Morretes, Antonina towns

Morning

Early pick-up at your hotel.
You will start your train journey at 8h30 (4 hours 15 min). One of the oldest active railways in Brazil, the Estrada de Ferro connects the cities of Morretes and Curitiba, providind during the trip a stunning view of a beautiful landscape through Serra do Mar. It is 110 km of observing natural beauty during your trip. You can enjoy the beauty of the mountains and have a privileged view of the Devil’s Throat canyon and the Véu da Noiva waterfall.

Afternoon

Visit the historic towns of Antonina and Morretes, which are both decorated with well-preserved historic buildings and colonial mansions.
Transfer back to your hotel in Curitiba at the end of the day (1 hour 30 min).

Day 8 CURITIBA: city tour, Transfer to Ilha do Mel

Morning

In the morning, leave your hotel to explore the city of Curitiba - a cultural center in the Brazilian state of Paraná, during this half day tour where you will discover the fruits of this city.
With your local guide, stroll through the streets lined with tall buildings while you learn about the history and culture of this metropolis. Visit important landmarks like Tangüá Park, the Oscar Niemeyer museum, Paço da Liberdade, and Catedral Basílica Menor de Nossa, among others.
Round-trip transportation from your hotel is included.

Afternoon transfer to Pontal do Sul (2 hours), then you will embark on a regular line boat to Ilha Do Mel (30 min). Your local guide will leave you once you board the boat.
