Magellanic subpolar forests, and the Andean desert – throughout which you will find unique landscapes, with turquoise lakes, lagoons, waterfalls, and impressive glaciers. Archeological proof indicates that the zone was once permanently inhabited during millenaries.
(from the 6th to the 5th millenary BCE), by people that belonged to the ancient hunting tribes of the pampas, Tehuelches’ ancestors. We have indeed found signs of presence along the Sarmiento Lake and Serrano River banks. After these primitive hunters came the Aonikenk Nomads between 1500 and 1870, who were Tehuelches living south of the Chubut River. The Tehuelches always had a very extended knowledge of the mountain-range that they would call Paine or Carrón, and for which they had deep respect.

It is quite impressive to listen to the cracking ice, which breaks off and falls into the otherwise calm motionless fjord. The landscape is a unique mix of green areas, covering the hills and mountains, and of turquoise water that seems to blend into the impressive glaciers. During the cruise, you will be able to see sea lions and cormorants. Then, you will top and get off of the boat for a short 1km walk, across a forest of native trees, to reach the bottom of the Serrano Glacier, and appreciate this magnificent work of nature.
