The highest capital in the world with its frenetic, multi-ethnic streets is best discovered on foot as it boasts an amazing cable car network.

Sail the mystic waters of Lake Titicaca, the world's highest navigable lake, and spend one night under the southern stars on the Island of the Sun.

Marvel at the achievements of the Inca and pre-Inca civilizations at many famous archeological sites such as Tiwanaku.

Hike into the secret Condoriri National Park. Drive, walk, and pose for countless pictures on the pure white grounds of the Uyuni salt flats which turn into a reflecting mirror during the wet season, the highlight of every trip to Bolivia.

Itinerary

Day 1 Acclimatization in La Paz, Moon Valley half-day Tour

Morning

Arrival in El Alto, La Paz international airport, meet and greet with your private guide, transfer to La Paz city (1 hour 15 min). 

Free morning to acclimatize yourself. La Paz is the highest capital in the world with an altitude of 11,940 ft (3640 metres). 

To avoid altitude sickness (common when landing in La Paz), we strongly advise against any strong physical effort or any alcohol consumption. 

Afternoon

Afternoon transfer to the Moon Valley (30 min South of La Paz). 

Discover a unique place, a real lunar landscape adorned with eroded sedimentary formations, fairy chimneys and high spires (2 hours). 

Transfer back to your hotel in La Paz (30 min). 

Evening

Free evening. 

Overnight at your hotel in La Paz.

Day 2 La Paz City-Tour, free afternoon

Morning

Follow the Republican colonial circuit on foot, starting at Murillo Square, the city's original central square.

Pass by the Government Palace, the Legislative Assembly and the city's Cathedral. 

Continue to the witches market, the craft market and the Church of San Francisco, whose unique facade is decorated with indigenous patterns (about 3 hours). 

Afternoon

Free afternoon. Keep exploring the busy city or visit the fascinating National Museum of Ethnography and Folklore (MUSEF) (not included). 

Evening

Free evening.

Day 3 Lake Titicaca: Island of the sun and Island of the moon

As cars are not allowed on the Island of the Sun where you will spend the night, we ask you to bring only one small piece of luggage for the night (carry on or backpack). 

Your larger suitcases will be taken and stored at your hotel in Copacabana where you will stay the following night. 

Morning

Departure with your private guide and driver to the town of Copacabana (3 hours 30 min), located on the shore of Lake Titicaca. 

The rest of the day will be spent sailing on Lake Titicaca and discovering two of its Bolivian islands. 

With  214 cubic miles (893 cubic km) of water and an altitude 12,507 ft (3812 metres), Lake Titicaca is the largest lake in South America and the highest navigable lake in the world. 

According to Inca mythology, Lake Titicaca is the birthplace of the sun, moon, stars, and first human beings. Many myths and legends still inhabit its majestic dark-blue waters. 

Afternoon

After lunch, board your private boat to sail onto the small Island of the Moon (1 hour 20 min). 

According to the legend, the Island of the Moon is where the Inca Viracocha commanded the moon to rise into the sky. 

You will explore the island and visit the ruins of the Incan temple of the Virgins of the Sun. 

After your visit, sail to the Island of the Sun (40 min). 

Check in at your hotel.

Day 4 Island of the sun: Pilko Kaina Ruins and Copacabana

Morning

Walk the island's scenic trail to the archeological site of Pilko Kaina (45 min) or sail to the site if you prefer (5 min). 

Visit the ancient Inca palace of Pilko Kaina (about 3 hours). 

Afternoon

After lunch, sail back to Copacabana (1 hour). 

Visit Copacabana's cathedral (1 hour).

Check in at your hotel in Copacabana. 

Evening

Day 5 Trek in Condoriri National Park

Morning

Early departure to Condoriri National Park. 

After a 3-hour drive, you will reach the Tuni community, the departure point of your hike. 

Walk to the small Jurikota lakeand the Chiarkota Lagoon (1 hour 30 min). 

Afternoon

Free time to relax and soak in the impressive surrounding scenery.

In the afternoon, walk back to the village of Tuni. 

Transfer back to La Paz (2 hours 30 min). 

Evening

Arrival in La Paz in the evening.

Day 6 Uyuni salt flat, Incahuasi Island, San Pedro de Quemes burned Village

Morning

Morning transfer to La Paz aiport for your direct flight to the town of Uyuni (1 hour).

Meet and greet with your local guide and transfer to the small town of Colchani (15 min). 

Learn about the Colchani salt cooperative and how it extracts and processes 25,000 tonnes of Uyuni salt every year (20 min). 

Free time to tour the souvenir market (30 min). 

Your 4x4 tour will take you to the Uyuni salar, the world's largest salt flat covering 4,086 square miles (10,582 square km) with several stops for photo opportunities along the way. 

Drive on the salar on your way to Incahuasi Island also know as the Isla del Pescado (Fish Island). 

Afternoon

Enjoy some free time to climb to the top of the hill and explore this strange mound covered in cactuses. 

Note: Incahuasi Island may not be accessible during the wet season. 

Your next 2-hour drive will take you out of the salar for a short visit of the 'burned town' of San Pedro de Quemes (30 min). 

Transfer and check in at your hotel. 

Evening

Overnight at your hotel in San Pedro de Quemes.

Day 7 North Lipez Lagoons and Siloli Desert

Morning

Hop in your 4x4 to explore North Lipez, a region surrounded by impressive volcanic cones and dotted with numerous lagoons hosting colonies of flamingos (4-hour drive). 

Numerous stops along the way to photograph the colorful lagoons of Cañapa, Hedionda, Chiar Khota, Honda and Ramaditas. 

Afternoon

Departure for the 'Paseo del León', a tan and beige canyon with many natural rock shelters contrasting with the greenery of the giant 'Yareta'  (3-hour drive). 

Arrival and check in at your hotel in the Siloli Desert. 

Evening

Overnight at your hotel in the Siloli Desert.

Day 8 Eduardo Avaroa Andean Fauna National Reserve, Arbol de Piedra, Sol de Manana Geysers, Dali Desert, Laguna Verde, Laguna Colorada

Morning

In the morning leave for the Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve. 

Drive through the Siloli Desert, famous for its unique rock formation, the"Arbol de Piedra" (Stone Tree). 

Stop at the geothermal field of Sol de Manana to see geysers in activity. 

Relax by the Polkes Laguna where you can go for a swim in its warm thermal waters. 

Drive through the Salvador Dali Desert, also known as Dali Valley, where strange rock formations remind of the paintings of the Spanish artist. 

On approaching the Chilean border you will discover the stunning emerald waters of Laguna Verde (Green Lagoon) standing right next to the Licancábur volcano. 

Afternoon

Marvel at one of the greatest Bolivian natural wonder: the Laguna Colorada (the Colored Lagoon) which goes from orange to red depending on the time of the day. 

Drive back to Uyuni (4 hours). 

Evening

Overnight at your hotel in Uyuni.

Day 9 Flight to La Paz, Tiwanaku archeological site

Morning

Transfer to Uyuni airport (10 min) for your flight to La Paz (1 hour). 

Arrival at La Paz airport and departure with your local guide to Tiwanaku (1 hour 40 min). 

Afternoon

Visit the pre-colombian archeological museum and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Tiwanaku (4 hours). 

Wander around the Akapana pyramid, the Kalasasaya Temple and the Puerta del Sol (Gateway of the Sun) and its impressive monoliths. Make your way down to the Semi-Subterranean Temple with many tenon heads ornating its walls. 

Transfer back to your hotel in La Paz (2 hours).
