Experience the untamed wilderness on this four-day Aqua Nera Amazon River cruise. Meet and greet your guide at the Iquitos Airport and make your way to Nauta, where you’ll board the luxury river cruise ship.A journey on the Aqua Nera is the most exclusive way to discover the gems of the Amazon rainforest. This brand new ship features 20 sophisticated suites and a host of elegant lounging spaces, including a plunge pool on the sun deck and an outdoor cinema so you can unwind under the stars. Enjoy early morning and wake with the sun to go birdwatching along the Marañon River. Then canoe or kayak in Yanayacu-Pucate River while looking out for the Amazon’s famed pink river dolphins. Spend time in a traditional Amazonian village and meet the ribereños, or river people, and learn about their way of life. Indulge in birdwatching along the Samiria River, followed by some kayaking and a refreshing dip in the water. Join a wildlife excursion on Nauta Caño, and when night falls, identify the stars, planets, and the milky way in a guided stargazing session. Disembark in Nauta for your onward journey. Along the way, visit the Manatee Rescue Center,  and learn how biologists are rescuing and rehabilitating young manatees, and re-releasing them into the wild.

Itinerary

Day 1 IQUITOS, NAUTA, EMBARKATION, MARAÑON RIVER

Afternoon

Receive a warm welcome at Iquitos International Airport by our crew. Board our private transfer to our exclusive Nauta Lounge for a welcome lunch before embarkation.

Settle into your generously-sized suite aboard the Aqua Nera as you begin one of life’s greatest adventures.

Evening

Following an introduction to our naturalist guides and a routine safety drill, gather at the restaurant for the first of many Amazonian cuisine experiences created by Aqua Nera consulting chef Pedro Miguel Schiaffino, whose restaurant, ÁmaZ, is one of Peru’s most renowned dining establishments.

Day 2 YANAYACU-PUCATE RIVER, LISBOA TOWN

Morning

Rise with the sun for an early morning birdwatching along the Marañon River.

Afternoon

Later, canoe or kayak in Yanayacu-Pucate River and look out for Amazon’s legendary pink river dolphins.  In the afternoon, visit an Amazonian village, where you can interact with native riberenos (people of the river) and visit local schoolchildren.

Evening at leisure.

Day 3 SAMIRIA RIVER, NAUTA CAÑO RIVER

Morning

Awake to a lush jungle sunrise and birdwatching along the Samiria River, enjoying breakfast in the middle of the lush jungle.

Afternoon

Swimming and kayaking are some of the recommended activities at this part of the Reserve.

Evening

In the evening, embark on a wildlife excursion on the black waters of Nauta Caño, and end the night with extraordinary stargazing.

Day 4 NAUTA TOWN, MANATEE RESCUE CENTER, TRANSFER TO THE AIRPORT

Morning

In the morning, take a guided visit to the local market and marvel at the regional produce of the Peruvian Amazon, and sample exotic snacks if you wish.

Return to the Aqua Nera for breakfast and to pack up.

Before saying goodbye, we will visit the Manatee Rescue Center, a sanctuary for orphaned Amazonian manatees to rehabilitate before their release back into the wild.

Important notes

If necessary, it is imperative to get your yellow fever vaccine at least ten days prior to departure.

Weather conditions in the Amazon rainforest vary greatly depending on the two seasons: the wet season from December to May and the dry season from June until November. Regardless of the season, you have to be prepared for rain throughout the year, although it rains a lot less during the dry season.
