Cruise Description

Go jungle trekking, piranha fishing, and wildlife spotting on this four-day Desafio Amazon River cruise. With 12 comfortable cabins and an upper deck with an outdoor bar to watch the views go by on this three-masted sailing ship, Desafio offers savvy cruisers quality service and good value. Take off from the port of Manaus, the capital of the Amazonas state. Enjoy solitude in a lush rainforest and admire a glowing sunrise to the tune of chirping birds. Go jungle trekking to observe wildlife in their natural habitat, and sail to the quaint village of Acajatuba. Along the way, meet pink dolphins and take the opportunity to feed them some pirarucu, one of the world’s largest freshwater fish. Cruise to Meeting of the Waters, where the dark shades of the Rio Negro and the pale sandy colored waters of the Amazon River come together. Continue to January Lake to fish for piranhas and get a close-up look at the razor-toothed fish. When the moon rises, go on a nighttime safari and search for caimans and other nocturnal creatures with the help of a powerful flashlight. Return to Manaus for your onward journey.

Itinerary

Day 1 DEPARTURE, AMAZON BREIFING, TRES BOCAS, ANAVILHANAS ARCHIPELAGO, NIGHT CANOE EXCURSION

Afternoon

Depart from the pier in Manaus to board the M/V Desafio at 2pm, your floating hotel for the next three nights.
Once onboard, your multilingual naturalist guide will host a “welcome to the Amazon” briefing highlighting the broad spectrum of life in this unique region. Your guide will assist in the identification of the flora/fauna, provide a historical framework and enrich your ecological understanding of this unusual destination and of the natural world. Start sailing bound "Tres Bocas", located in the archipelago of Anavilhanas, the largest river archipelago in the world, with its lakes, islands, creeks and flooded forests.

Evening

Enjoy a pleasant walk in motorized canoes for local recognition, an opportunity to hear the sounds of the jungle.

Day 2 SUNRISE BOAT EXCURSION, JUNGLE WALK, INDIGENOUS COMMUNITY, JARAQUI VILLAGE, JUNGLE WALK

Morning

At 5:30am, boat ride to admire the sunrise in the forest and the birds singing in their diversity.
Return to the ship for breakfast.
In motorized canoes, walk along the river to a site trails for a walk with purpose to observe the flora and fauna of the region.
Enjoy your lunch while cruising towards the indigenous community "Terra Preta", whose visit is an opportunity to meet the lifestyle and habits of the Indigenous.

Afternoon

Navigation towards Jaraqui village. By motorized canoes, after a pleasant river expedition, stop in land for an interesting jungle trekking to explore the fauna and flora.

Evening

Dinner and overnight onboard.

Day 3 LOCAL VILLAGE, PINK DOLPHINS, THE MEETING OF THE WATERS, JANUAURI LAKE, PIRANHA FISHING, NIGHT CANOE EXCURSION

Morning

This morning you will sail to a local village named 'Acajatuba'. On the way, stop at the floating station 'Recanto dos Botos' to interact with the pink dolphins, and feed the famous fish 'Pirarucu', known as the cod of the Amazon.

Lunch on board.

Afternoon

Navigate along the Negro River towards the borders of the Solimões until reach the “meeting of waters”, where the Negro and Solimoes rivers meet to form the great Amazon River. The cruise continues to Janauari Lake for another exciting experience, fishing the piranha, the dreaded Amazonian fish.

Evening

After dinner, canoe ride along the streams in search of caimans and other nocturnal animals with flashlights.

Day 4 BOAT EXCURSION ON NEGRO RIVER, ARRIVAL TO MANAUS

Morning

After another tropical breakfast, departure to see the giants and beautiful Amazonian water lilies, another opportunity to explore the Negro River.
Return aboard starting the return trip to Manaus arriving at 11am in the city.

If necessary, it is imperative to get your yellow fever vaccine at least ten days prior to departure.

Weather conditions in the Amazon rainforest vary greatly depending on the two seasons: the wet season from December to May and the dry season from June until November. Regardless of the season, you have to be prepared for rain throughout the year, although it rains a lot less during the dry season.
