Tour Description

The variety of landscapes and the quality of infrastructures make Peru an ideal destination for sports and adventure.

If you are an active traveler, you will love this private adventure tour focusing on Cusco and the nearby Sacred Valley area.

Before heading to Cusco, you will first explore Lima's historical center and paraglide along its green coast. In the Sacred Valley, you will spend a night in one of the three luxurious transparent capsules of Skylodge Adventure Suites, the edgiest hotel in the world. To reach your cozy pod, you will have to climb up a vertiginous via ferrata, and zipline down to get back to the Sacred Valley.

Other thrilling activities along the way will include a whitewater rafting journey down the Urubamba river, a downhill mountain bike in the Sacred Valley, and a hike along the fascinating Inca Trail.

In addition to visiting Machu Picchu, you will also discover many exciting sites such as the Maras salt ponds, the agricultural terraces of Moray, and the Ollantaytambo fortress.

At the end of your exciting adventure, there will still be time to party in the Inca capital of Cusco!

Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival in Lima

Arrival at Jorge Chávez, Lima international airport. 

Welcome by our local English-speaking staff. 

Transfer to your hotel located in the residential and shopping district of Miraflores, overlooking the Pacific ocean (1 hour). 

Evening

Free evening. 

Overnight at your hotel in Lima. 

Day 2 Lima: City Tour and Paragliding, flight to Cusco, transfer to The Sacred Valley

Morning

Start your city tour with a drive around the upmarket district of Miraflores, famous for its 'Malecon' (the strand) and Larcomar, the huge iconic shopping center overlooking the ocean. 

You will then drive past the Huaca Pucllana archeological site on your way to visit the historical center of the capital (30 min). 

The city founded in 1535 by the Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro, still features many invaluable colonial buildings along the main square (the Plaza Mayor) and the nearby streets. 

Discover Lima's Cathedral, the Government Palace and the San Francisco Convent among many other impressive colonial buildings. 

Transfer to Miraflores (30 min) for a 15-minute paragliding flight above Lima's green coast. 

Kindly note that the paragliding flight is only possible for people weighting less than 330 lbs. 

Afternoon

In the afternoon, transfer to Lima airport for your direct flight to Cusco (1 hour 15 min). 

Arrival in Cusco airport, welcome by our local team and transfer to the Sacred Valley (1 hour 30 min). 

Check-in at your hotel in the Sacred Valley. 

Evening

Free evening and overnight at your hotel in the Sacred Valley.

Day 3 Sacred Valley: rafting, via ferrata, night at Skylodge Adventure suites

Morning

Transfer to the adventure center (15 min). 

After getting changed into the wetsuit provided and given your helmet, life-jacket and paddle  your rafting guide will give you a safety briefing about your rafting trip and details of the descent (30 min). 

Pull the raft out on the Urubamba river, learn the commands and start floating down the sacred river. 

Take time to put into practice the guide's instructions on this first quiet part of the river. 

The journey will take you through some extremely fun rapids so get ready for a serious dose of adrenaline rushes.  

At the end of the ride,  you will have time to shower and dry and get changed before transfering back  for your lunch in the Sacred Valley. 

Afternoon

In the afternoon, transfer to Pachar (15 min) located on the banks of the Urubamba river and right at the foot of the cliff where the via ferrata will take you to the Skylodge Adventure Suites luxury capsules. 

Your guide, will help you with your climbing equipment and give you a safety brief before starting the 2-hour ascent to one of the three exclusive capsules where you will spend the night. 

1,400 iron stepping rungs and 400 cable attachment points will help you make the vertiginous climb to enjoy breathtaking views of the Sacred Valley. 

On reaching the capsules, you will be offered a drink and shown how to use the lodge. Enjoy the privacy of your fully transparent bedroom hanging on the side of the cliff with 300-degree views of the majestic Sacred Valley. 

Hand crafted out of aerospace aluminum and weather resistant polycarbonate, your capsule suite comes complete with four beds, a dining area and a private bathroom. 

Safety is insured thanks to the exit portal located on the upper part of the capsule. 

Evening

Enjoy this unforgettable evening under the southern stars while floating over the mystic Sacred Valley of the Inca.

Day 4 Ziplining, Ollantaytambo Fortress, Maras Salt Ponds and Moray Agricultural Terraces

Morning

After breakfast, choose how to make your way back down to the Sacred Valley. You can either leave your capsule by abseiling (rapelling) or ziplining down with your guide (2 hours). 

Transfer to the archaeological site Ollantaytambo, a fortified city built by the Inca Pachacutec (10 min). 

Explore this quaint settlement with an orthogonal layout (30 min). 

Climb the Temple Hill known as the fortress to learn about the purpose of those inca constructions (1 hour 30 min). 

Afternoon

After lunch, transfer to the site of Maras (30 min). 

Walk between the hundreds of salt ponds used to dry the salt according to a method inherited from pre-inca times. 

The many colors of the polygonal ponds can go from light reddish to brownish to white according to the season. This contrasts with the surrounding landscape and give the site a most-unusual aspect. 

Free time to shop pink salt collected by the local community workers. 

Transfer to Moray archeological site (30 min). 

Walk down and around those impressive circular terraces that were used to conduct scientific and agricultural experiments during Inca times (30 min). 

End of the afternoon, drive back to your hotel in the Sacred Valley (30 min). 

Evening

Free evening to rest in your hotel. 

Overnight at your hotel in the Sacred Valley.

Day 5 Inca Trail: Chachabamba, Wiñayhuayna, Inti Punku (Sun Gate), sunset on Machu Picchu

Morning

Early wake up and transfer to the train station of Ollantaytambo (30 min). 

Board the 6 am train that will take you to 'KM 104' (45 min), the starting point of the Inca Trail. 

The Royal Inca Trail begins with a hike to Chachabamba (7448 ft - 2270 m), a sacred site still revered by locals as a place to worship the sun and mountains. 

The hike continues south as you slowly climb on the side of the mountain, before entering the cloud forest. 

As you keep going uphill the tracks leaves the forest crossing an open meadow. 

Your 3-hour morning hike will take you to the site of Wiñayhuayna (8694 ft - 22650 m) where you will stop for lunch. 

Afternoon

After lunch hike across a cloud forest filled with bromeliads, orchids and tree ferns. 

Climb the 60 stairs to get to the mythic Inti Punku (the Gate of the Sun) from where you will get your first view of Machu Picchu. 

45 minutes walking downhill is another viewpoint from where you will watch the sunset over the Inca citadel. 

Walk down to the entrance of the Machu Picchu site where you will board the bus shuttle down to the town of Aguas Calientes. 

Evening

Walk to your hotel (5 min). 

Overnight at your hotel in Aguas Calientes.

Day 6 Machu Picchu tour

Your passport is required to enter the Machu Picchu site. You have the option to get a 'Machu Picchu' stamp in your passport if you wish. 

Morning

Today might be THE day you have been expecting from the moment you landed on Peruvian soil as you will finally enter the ancient citadel of Machu Picchu. 

Your guide will meet you at your hotel and walk with you to the bus station (5 min). 

Enjoy the impressive 20-minute drive up the hill to the Machu Picchu site at 7,972 feet (2430 m). The abandoned stronghold was rediscovered in 1911 by the American archaeologist Hiram Bingham, Macchu Picchu is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. 

Learn about every secret this ancient Inca citadel holds and grab every opportunity to take amazing photographs (3 to 4 hours). 

Afternoon

Take the bus back to Aguas Calientes (20 min) and board the train back to Ollantaytambo (1 hour 30 min). 

Transfer to your hotel in Cusco (1 hour 30 min).

Evening

Overnight at your hotel in Cusco.

Day 7 Mountain bike in Patacancha Valley, transfer to Cusco

Morning

Early morning start for another active day mountain biking in the hills of the Sacred Valley. 

Patacancha Valley offers a great opportunity to cycle down among lamas, going through the small town of Patacancha before reaching the Ollantaytambo fortress. 

Morning transfer to Quelcanca pass a 14500 feet (4420 m)(1 hour 45 min). 

On the way we will stop to explore the Inca site of Pumamarca, once a control point and food storage for the nearby communities during Inca times (1 hour 30 min). 

At your arrival at the pass take time to identify the summits of the Urubamba cordillera cutting out the Peruvian sky, while the team gets the bikes ready. 

After a brief reminder of safety instructions, put your helmet on, hope on your bike and start riding downhill among lamas and alpacas. 

Several miles of trails and tracks across hillsides will lead you to the village of Patacancha. 

After a deserved break at the village, set out on the second part of your downhill ride. 

Afternoon

This part is a bit more technical and fun as you follow an enduro trail with tree stumps and rocks. 

The last part of the ride goes over a larger path all the way to Ollantaytambo where your driver and vehicle will be waiting for you. 

Transfer to Cusco (2 hours). 

Evening

Free evening to rest or explore the charms of Cusco, the capital of the Inca Empire. 

Overnight at your hotel in Cusco.

Day 8 Flight to Lima, departure

At the indicated time, transfer to Cusco airport for your flight back to Lima (1 hour 15 min).
